Other than examining the dental aspects provided as evidence, what other ways can the victims be identified?

Ways to identify victims:

1. Personal forms of identity

-anything with name & address

  2. Fingerprints analysis
          -Fingerprints are unique, do not change, can be classified

      3. DNA profiling

-Direct comparison between DNA profiles of victim (DNA generated  from cells in hair brush of known victim)

          - Indirect comparison using parents DNA (paternity testing)

 4. Medical Findings

-Scars & surgical removal of organs may provide information about victim’s medical history/appendectomy, unique number found on heart pacemakers & prosthetic devices, tattoos, moles, disfiguration.

5. DNA taken from parents or siblings of missing person for comparison

 6. DVI (Disaster Victim Identification)
          -Identity victims of mass casualty

 7. Blood Test

 8. Clothing / Footwear –does the deceased’s clothing match the description given to  police?

 9. Jewellery – Many items of jewellery can be personalized engravings
